As PMO Conference week approaches, we have been reflecting on what it means to bring the PMO community together in London once again, especially as the conference reaches its 11th year.
What started over a decade ago as a dedicated space for PMO professionals to come together to learn, share and connect has become something much bigger. PMO Conference is now a fixture in the calendar for people working across project, programme and portfolio offices, and its continued success says a great deal about how far the profession has come.
Three Days Dedicated to PMO Learning, Networking and Community
Across three days, PMO Conference week gives us the chance to step away from the day-to-day, spend time with others who understand the reality of PMO work, and explore the ideas, challenges and opportunities shaping our profession. There will, of course, be plenty of learning from speakers, practitioners and organisations sharing their experiences, but the value of the conference has always gone beyond the sessions themselves.
Why Face-to-Face PMO Events Still Matter
The conversations in the room matter just as much as the presentations from the stage. The quick chat over coffee, the moment someone says, “we’re dealing with that too”, the chance to compare notes with peers, and the reassurance that others are facing similar questions all help to create something that is difficult to replicate online. In a working world where so much now happens through screens, being together face to face feels more important than ever.
For PMO professionals, that time in the same room is powerful because so much of our work depends on relationships, context, influence and trust. These are things that can be discussed in theory, but they are often better understood through real conversations with people who are living them. Conference week creates the space for those conversations to happen properly, away from the inbox, the Teams call and the next urgent request.
Giving the PMO Profession Its Own Stage
It also gives the PMO profession visibility. Having a conference dedicated to PMO is not just about putting on an event; it is about making a statement to the wider project management world. PMO is important enough to have its own space, its own agenda, its own community and its own voice.

Eleven years on, the fact that PMO Conference is still here, still bringing people together and still creating space for the profession to develop, is something worth celebrating.
